Bentonite – Nature’s Miracle Clay
Healing clays have been used by cultures throughout history for their nutrients and to help rid the body of toxins. In recent times, healing clays like Bentonite Clay have once again been gaining popularity for internal and external detoxification for good reason. Food grade Bentonite Clay is a medicinal, powdered clay which is derived from deposits of weathered volcanic ash. Once hydrated (combined with water), Bentonite Clay has an enormous surface area. It swells and is stretched open like a highly porous sponge; the toxins are drawn into these spaces by the electrical attraction and bound fast. In fact, Bentonite Clay can absorb pathogenic viruses as well as pesticides and herbicides. Technically speaking, the Bentonite Clay first absorbs toxins, attracting them to its extensive surface area where they adhere like flies to sticky paper. Bentonite Clay’s negative charge is responsible for its amazing detoxifying properties: it is a magnet for many toxic elements present in the body (heavy metals, pesticides, and free radicals), which are positively charged. Bentonite clay is used as a natural skin care product to prevent or treat facial blemishes and minor abscesses.
It is one of the most effective, natural intestinal detoxifying agents available and has been recognized as such for centuries!
Pamper Yourself with a Bentonite Bath– Start by filling up the tub with enough comfortably hot water to cover your body and add a ½ cup of Bentonite Clay. Keep the water moving using your hands or legs as paddles. Soak this way for 15 minutes. This can be done a MAXIMUM of 3 times per week. Try-Half cup Clay / Half cup Epsom Salt / Essential oil of your choice. Dissolve the Epsom salt in bath water and add essential oils if you like. Instructions for the clay: Quickly mix the clay into a small amount of water until the clumps are mostly dissolved. Do not use metal for mixing! Mix with a plastic spoon. Add the clay mix to the bath water and soak for at least 20 minutes. This bath is great for removing a lot of toxins as the clay binds to heavy metals and the Epsom salts help replenish magnesium levels.
Bentonite clay also makes a great all natural toothpaste and mouthwash! It will provide a clean and healthy mouth WITHOUT the harmful chemicals found in many traditional oral hygiene products. To make toothpaste– blend all of these ingredients until they are smooth – 4 tbs. of coconut oil, 2 tbs. of bentonite clay, 2 tbs. of baking soda, ½ tsp. of natural green stevia, and 10-15 drops of peppermint essential oil – then store this mixture in an airtight container, and use as you would any other toothpaste! This recipe tastes great and leaves your mouth minty fresh! Your teeth will feel clean and slick!
As a mouthwash mix ½ a teaspoon of clay with ¼ cup of water. Add a few drops of peppermint essential oil. Swish in mouth for 1-2 minutes. Rinse with water and then repeat until the solution is finished.
